Not to open with “I told you so,” but…
Yeah, I completely told you so. Check this article about the new tv show “Gossip Girl”:
For those of you who hate to read (then I’m honored you read my blog), here’s some major points to read in the article:
-
Last week, the week ended Sept. 30, “(Gossip) Girl” was the top-rated new show among teens 12-17, averaging a 2.5 rating. It held that rating again this week in its 9 p.m. slot against both “Woman” and “Practice,” and is averaging a 2.6 season to date.
-
The show’s Sept. 19 debut drew a 5.3 among teen girls, bettering the series premieres of “The O.C.,” “Veronica Mars,” “One Tree Hill,” “Gilmore Girls” and even the WB’s late “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.” Season to date, it’s averaging a 4.6 in that demo.
-
Right now, “Girl” is the youngest-skewing show on any English-language broadcast network, with a median age of 22.8 years old, about three years younger than last year’s youngest-skewing program, “One Tree Hill.”
-
“Girl” will likely need to start retaining more of “Model’s” 18-34 audience to justify staying in that very valuable timeslot. One way to do that might be incorporating more adult plotlines, as co-creator Josh Schwartz did with his last teen show, “The O.C.,” by building up the parts of the parents.
-
And from another article: “However, the CW said the show has been gaining buzz online and on platforms like iTunes, where the two most recent episodes rank among the top five downloaded shows.”
Parents… are you listening? I can’t warn you enough: everything this show promotes is everything you should be discouraging in teen behavior. Make sure that if your kids are watching, you are too. Or better yet, help them make wise watching decisions and get it out of their must-see-tv list. For those of you who don’t feel strong enough to force your way into your teen’s tv habits (let’s face it, teen girls can be tough!), you can watch the episodes online here: http://cwtv.com/cw-video and bring it up in conversation later.
